If you want to dip your toe into art collecting -- or you don't know art but you know what you like -- there's an 'affordable art' auction this Friday, November 29, from 5.30 pm at Our Place Wine and Espresso Bar. And money raised goes to support local Rural Fire Service brigades, whose members have been so sorely tested this year and face a horrific summer.

The Artists' Collective Studio Gallery, Borderline Arts Association, Make It Tenterfield Incorporated and Our Place have come together to auction original works to fund the specific requirements of local brigades.
The brigades have all been contacted and asked to make a wish list of equipment they need to improve their firefighting capacity. The lists include items like portable fridges to keep drinking water cool while firefighting, and breathing masks and torches.

An outstanding collection of original works have been curated, with many of the artists and makers having been directly affected by the fires and keen to repay the fire brigades who continue to fight to save property, livelihoods and even lives.
All works to be auctioned are now on display at Our Place at 204 Rouse Street, Tenterfield. Tickets to Friday night's auction are $15 which includes a drink on arrival and donation back to the auction.
Make It's Ruth Rutherford said if a huge sum is raised on the night it might be possible to expand the support beyond the eight local brigades already identified.
Some of the unique lots include a cricket bat signed by Greg Chappell, saffron-infused Gin and Vodka, a decorated cake, books, paintings by the late Chris Humphreys, shoulder bags, pottery and lots of artworks by well-loved local artists such as Anni Washington, Linda Nye, Nola Sindel, Louise Jenkins, Carmel Higgins, Judy Harris, John Donnelly and Liz Powell.
There are 59 lots in all, and there's something for everyone.
Silent bids are being accepted up until the start of the event. There will be a bank of phones to take bids on the night, for those who can't attend in person, and all donations are gratefully accepted.
Details of artworks to be auctioned are available on Our Place Wine and Espresso Bar Facebook page and Instagram, or contact the bar for a copy of the catalogue.
OfficeWorks has volunteered to print the catalogue.
