It may still look brackish, but the town water meets NSW Health requirements and can now be consumed without pre-boiling.

Town residents received an early Christmas present with Tenterfield Shire Council announcing on December 23 that the boil water alert had been lifted.

Council staff met with NSW Department of Health late that day to discuss the turbidity levels with a view to lifting the alert, and received the go-ahead.

The turbidity levels are now within the required levels, although council and NSW Health will continue to work collaboratively to closely monitor plant filter performance during the return to normal operations.
