U3A, or University of the Third Age as it is more formally called, is a voluntary, not for profit organisation which offers retired people low-cost learning opportunities in a pleasant, supportive, social setting. People from all walks of life get together and learn from each other, drawing on their life's experiences, knowledge and interests.
No formal qualification is required, no exams and no "awards". In fact, the word "university" is used in the broad sense of a community coming together to learn from one another. Everyone is encouraged to be involved.
