Each year the ladies of the Tenterfield Community College and the Tenterfield Craft Group amass for a weekend-long quiltathon to produce quilts to go to people whom have been affected by some sort of natural disaster. This year's recipients have not yet been decided however the ladies will not have to look very far to find worthy recipients.

Last year's quilting weekend assisted the people of Tabulam whom were affected by fire conditions.
As a result of the Quiltathon 56 quilts were delivered by Fran Bulmer to Tabulam CWA to be distributed in the local community. Over the past nine years a total of 539 quilts have been delivered to victims of natural disasters across the eastern states of Australia.

You don't have to be a member of either of these organisations to participate . You may just enjoy quilting at home or with a few friends. This year's Quiltathon is on March 7 and 8 at the TAFE College.
The Tenterfield TAFE opens the doors each year allowing the quilters to use the premises rent-free over the weekend.
Tenterfield Shire Council and the Tenterfield Rotary Club regularly donate to the project, but more sponsors and donations of materials are always appreciated.
Kay Little from Country Curtains and Soft Furnishings has come on board as a new sponsor for the Quiltathon this year. Kay agreed this has been a hard year for our community but quilters have continued to quilt in their spare time.
"They say it helps them to forget their troubles and relaxes them," she said, and that she felt this was just a small way of supporting her amazing customers.
Donations of completed quilts or even a quilt that is laying unfinished can be donated. The ladies will get it finished and include it in the quilts that go out this year.
Tenterfield Community College president Kim Rhodes said this year they have also been lucky to receive some funding from HNECC PHN - Empowering our Communities grants program. This will allow quilting to be introduced to new members of the community whom may like to learn a new skill.
Anyone interested can contact coordinator Jess to become a sponsor or learn a new skill. Her number is 0423 190 276 or email at tencomcol@gmail.com.
