Outgoing President Stephen Whiticker reflected on the past 12 months of his presidency with the first half of the year being very busy. The club helped out the Salvation Army by cooking breakfast for the firefighters at the showground in September, plus cooking dinner for Blaze Aid volunteers throughout the devastating weeks of fires that struck the shire.
The club was fortunate to receive donations from 'The Coasties' of Christmas hampers that were distributed throughout the community. A group of kids from Sydney raised enough money to purchase water, dog food and hay which they donated to local farmers. Lions Australia donated funds to the local club so that it was able to purchase cattle nuts that were distributed to local farmers.
The combined Lions and Rotary Christmas carnival was a wonderful success. It was great to see so many families come out and enjoy an afternoon in the park after what we had all been through with the drought and fires.
Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions the majority of the club's usual events were cancelled. Members are hoping that once the pandemic is eliminated they can all get back to normal.
Congratulations to the 2020/2021 Board that were inducted by Lion Rodney Stanford. For the first time in 54 years the club has a female president. Congratulations to Lion Lisa Dalton.
Tenterfield Lions Club is looking forward to being able to resume its regular events in the community once restrictions are lifted and it is safe for everyone to enjoy our beautiful town.
