Now, the journey for Tenterfield's Amelia Wishart has become a little bit easier with a Local Sporting Champions grant of $550 was received from New England MP Barnaby Joyce.
Wishart plays cricket and the grant was received to cover the costs of attending the NSW Combined High Schools' championships which were held in Bathurst earlier in the year.
At the carnival, Wishart's best figures came in North West's opening game against North Coast.
She bowled two overs and finished with figures of 2-3.
Joyce visited Tenterfield High School to present the funds in person.
He asked Wishart about her cricket skills and inspiration in an interview he posted to Facebook.
"I'm not much of a batter to be honest," she said.
"But I really enjoy bowling.
"My mother used to play for Queensland, indoor and outdoor when she was younger so right from the start I have been interested in cricket.
"And it has led me a long way and it is really fun.
"I enjoy hanging out with my teammates."
