Bob Smith was at home on Trenayr, at Mole River, with his mum when news of the official end to WW2 came through on the radio on August 15, 1945. His father had not long passed and Col. Bruxner had acceded to Mrs Smith's request to bring her son home, from jungle warfare in New Guinea.
