Tenterfield Show Society worked with the Tenterfield Showground Trust on the project, bringing in the council health inspector to prioritise the changes necessary to ensure the kitchen complies with council's food service code.
That entailed new flooring, the installation of an exhaust canopy and relocation of the hand basins and washing up area.
With just some plumbing work remaining, Show Society volunteers are gathering for working bees both this weekend and next to finalise the project.

Funding came from a $25,000 Community Futures grant from the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Foundation, which offered an opportunity for community-minded people to undertake drought and bushfire recovery community projects in their local area.
That grant was supplemented by part of a $40,000 state government electrical infrastructure grant which will upgrade wiring not only within the kitchen but throughout the grounds.
Another $5000 NSW Shows grant was secured to buy a new Skope two-door fridge.
The Show Society's Kim Rhodes said the revamp makes the kitchen a more pleasant place to work but is also an important step up considering the facilities are used by the Salvation Army when supporting evacuees and firefighters, as they did during last year's bushfires.
"It will make it easier for groups catering out of the kitchen," Mrs Rhodes said.
The society shopped locally for as many goods and services as possible, as specified in the grant application. Of course the finishing touches will be applied by volunteers in readiness for the showground's next function, as COVID allows.
