The Great Drake Yard & Boot Sale this Saturday, November 14, is much more than a chance to do a spring clean-out or to grab a bargain. It's an opportunity for the small Drake community to come together in a common purpose, and do some COVID-careful socialising.

"We haven't done anything as a community since the bushfires last September," coordinator Helen Nauschutz said.
Trying to organise a map of participating properties is akin to herding cats and operating hours will be on 'Drake time', but Helen said she's had lots of people tell her they'll be involved, and generally the sale will run from 8am to 4pm.

Drake is small enough that a run down the highway and out the few short dead-end side streets will easily cover the district. Helen will have a mud map available at 7723 Bruxner Highway and possibly some balloons to identify participating households. Out-of-towners will be selling out of their car boots at the oval and around the village.
With Drake being fairly isolated Helen said it's not practical for someone to host a standalone yard sale, so the Great Drake Yard & Boot Sale has focused the community's efforts to move on the excess items uncovered during COVID lockdown and spring cleaning.
The weather's predicted to be fine, the local Men's Shed may be putting on a sausage sizzle, and there will surely be some gems to uncover. One vendor has a shipping container full of treasures on offer.
And in any case, the Lunatic Hotel will be open from 10am.
"We'll be doing something as a community, while still being apart," Helen said.
