The good news is, things are getting better. The travel industry has heeded calls for more flexibility and certainty around refunds. That makes booking less risky.
We're luckier than most. We have enormous choices in our own backyard. And, as vaccines become more accessible, the chances of borders closing will fade. And the possibility of a short hop in a bubble to New Zealand - or even Singapore - will open up.
This week, we're looking at South Australia's great wine, drive and activities holidays options. Adelaide is a short flight away for most of us, and the options are just incredible.
And we've road-tested Sydney's newest, swankiest hotel. Crown isn't a casino yet (its licence is pending) but its hotel and food venues are attracting quite a crowd. It's the latest addition to Barangaroo, Australia's hottest new precinct, and well worth experiencing.
