The first instalment of the Capture Tenterfield photo competition, encouraging locals and visitors to celebrate the more noteworthy elements of the district, attracted an impressive 280 entries.

Category winners were announced last Thursday, January 28 with professional photographer and competition judge Adrian Ashman on hand among 60 guests in the Main Pavilion at the showground for the event.
While the bulk of the entries came from Tenterfield residents, there were also contributions by photographers from Byron Bay, Victoria and elsewhere who had visited the shire in the past 12 months.

Organiser Kim Rhodes was pleased to see that younger photographers gave the more experienced snappers a run for their money, taking out the open categories in some instances.
And the winners are:

- Student: 1. Tayla Capper, 2. Amelia Wishart, 3. Jorgia Denis.
She said there was some keen interest in seeing Capture Tenterfield become an annual event, although that possibility comes down to ongoing sponsorship. This year Tenterfield Shire Council allocated $15,000 from its share of the NSW Government Bushfire Community Resilience & Economic Recovery Fund for the initiative.
The competition entries, now in the safekeeping of the Tenterfield Show Society, will be on display during Saturday's Tenterfield Show.
They are also available for use by local enterprises to promote Tenterfield and surrounds, with the photographer credited of course.
