The day is the Rescue Helicopter Support Group's biggest fundraiser, and proceeds continue to climb each year. The group's Dodge Landers recalls when the day would yield $15,000 but that's creeped up to $31,500 last year, and he has his sights set on $35,000 this year.
To that end the group has organised a major raffle with the winner's choice of a large load of firewood, mostly ironbark with some red gum (thanks to the generosity of Wendy and Lloyd Taylor), or two nights' stay at the five-star Ramada Hotel in Ballina on the waterfront, valued at around $500. The second ticket drawn gets the remaining prize.

Mr Landers said the Taylors very kindly donate a load of wood every year, already split.
"We just come out and they say to load up as much as we can fit in the trailer."
While it's warm at the moment he said it will only be a month or so before people are looking for firewood for their wood burners.
Golfers lining up for the 4BBB will be treated to the ever-popular roaming drinks cart with Carlton United donating beer to stock it, along with softdrinks and water.
Entry also includes a free steak sandwich courtesy of the Lions Club catering van.
And it's not all just for fun, with $10,000 in prize money up for grabs.
"It's one of the biggest one-day golfing competitions in the state," Mr Landers said, "certainly the biggest one for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service."
There's a limit of 160 golfers with the day almost fully-subscribed, but contact Tenterfield Golf Club to snare a start. Mr Landers said the club also has lots of giveaways to celebrate the day.
Non-golfers are encouraged to be at the club by 5.30pm for the auctioning off of a raft of items, including a black Akubra hat signed by country songster Lee Kernaghan.
"There's heaps of goodies," Mr Landers said.
