The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter support group chair had a lofty goal of raising $35,000 from the golf day out at Tenterfield Golf Club last Thursday, March 4.
That goal was blown out of the water, with proceeds for the day totting up to an incredible $55,150.

Mr Landers credits coordinator Michael 'Sparrow' Townes with lining up a great range of prizes and donated items to help boost the proceeds, and a hardworking crew of volunteers that helped the day run smoothly.
A team of 27 volunteers were involved, many contributing their time for several weeks in the lead-up to the day. Four Lions Club members and three from Rotary joined the support group team to help out, along with a couple of Mr Landers' drinking buddies who stepped in at the last moment to fill some voids.
''Sparrow does a magnificent job, but it's a really big undertaking," Mr Landers said.
The Akubra hat signed by Lee Kernaghan went for a relatively modest sum at the auction which capped off the day. However there was no accounting for the sums that some of the other items pulled, with a well-lubricated crowd entering into some fierce bidding.
A Webber barbecue that retails for $450 was knocked down for $2800. A Brown & Hurley foam esky, with a Caterpillar coat and a couple of caps inside, went for $1900.
While the supply of beer donated by Carlton United Breweries was exhausted and had to be supplemented, possibly contributing to the outstanding results at the auction, Mr Landers said it was a happy and well-behaved crowd and he didn't receive a single complaint.
"It took a whole community to help to make it a great day," he said.
Oh and some golf was played as well.
Ultimately 186 golfers hit out for the 4BBB.
"They said they'll all be back next year, with bells on," Mr Landers said.
And next year's fundraising goal?
"Let's go for $60,000," he said which, given the exponential climb of takings in the golf day's history, might not be too far out of reach.
As as aside, the revellers also helped Mr Landers ease into his birthday celebrations which take place over March 5, 6 and 7 each year. Why a three-day celebration?
Mr Landers had always celebrated his birthday on March 6 until he had cause to get a copy of his birth certificate in his mid-30s, only to discover it said he was born on March 5.
When he queried this with his mother she said his father hadn't registered his birth for two weeks so he could even have been born on March 7 for all they knew.
"So now I celebrate my birthday over March 5, 6 and 7, just to be sure," Mr Landers said.
If the rescue helicopter golf day continues to be such a success, he'll continue to have much to celebrate.
