While back in February MP Janelle Saffin pushed for an increase in this year's allocation to between $600,000 and $1 million to allow more local groups to benefit, without success, she's encouraging not-for-profits to get their applications in before the May 14 deadline as late applications won't be considered.

Quite a number of Tenterfield community groups are among those receiving the grants in the past. They include $60,000 for the Shirley Park fence, $27,000 and $17,000 for additional sheds for the Mens Shed and Tenterfield Preschool respectively, and more than $11,000 last year for new broadcasting equipment for TenFM.
Several village halls have also received upgrades due to the program, along with sporting groups ($10,000 for LED lights at the Tenterfield Tennis Club, $11,500 for disabled toilet facilities at Tenterfield Traditional Archers), and $15,000 to help Tenterfield Transport Museum get established.
"Since I was elected as Member for Lismore in March 2019, a total of 45 local projects have been funded under this program, all of which have improved the quality of life for people living in local communities," Ms Saffin said.
"This is a great small grants program which is heavily over-subscribed. We're looking at an average of 60 applications a year, which to me suggests a huge community need is not being met by the whole gamut of State and Federal funding programs.
"From today, applicants have only four weeks in which to lodge applications. The team administering this program will not accept late applications."
Ms Saffin said she is happy to be briefed on projects and can provide letters of support.
The Community Building Partnership Program has awarded more than $362 million to over 16,600 projects since it was established in 2009.
