It was a thrilling finish when the Tenterfield Tigers held on to claim the 2021 premiership at Rugby League Park on Saturday.
Grand Final day on Saturday started with the Tenterfield Tiger womens league tag losing a close battle against the Stanthorpe Gremlins. The Stanthorpe women were driven and ready to take on the unbeaten Tigers.
Coach Megg Landers was obviously disappointed with the outcome but remained positive for a better outcome next season.
"We have a great young team and we have enjoyed the competition and I am very proud of the girls sportsmanship and the fact that we have all had fun and enjoyed the season socially and played our best throughout the season," she said.
The A grade Men's Tigers hadn't won a grand final since 2007 and they changed that statistic on Saturday.
The Border Rivers grand final entertained the crowd with some bone rattling defence, explosive attack and a nail-biting finish. Everything a grand final should be.
Every player gave it their all. Tyler Sargeant received the Player of the Grand final with his courageous effort in both attack and defence.
The tigers lead 12-nil at half time but the Inglewood roosters slowly pecked there way back shortly after half time making the score 12-6.
With five minutes left on the clock Inglewood scored in the corner which made a tense moment as the Inglewood goalkicker went back to level the scores.
The roar of the Tenterfield supporters did not help the concentration of the Inglewood goalkicker.
When the ball hit the goalposts and bounced back into the field of play, it meant the Tigers had won the 2021 Border Rivers grand final. Go the Tigers!
