As Tenterfield celebrates 150 years of Local Government, one man is recognised for keeping 'local' in the name.
Terry Landers (1914-2007) was born and raised in town and served for 44 and a half years, retiring in June 1979 after 23 years of service as town clerk with the Tenterfield Municipal Council.

There was a rapid expansion of electricity between 1917 and 1970 and much of it had been overseen by Mr Landers and council's electrical engineer Murray Hocking.
It was through their successful management that funds from the sale of electricity had accumulated sufficiently to build the new administrative offices overlooking Bruxner Park in early 1973.
After the merger of councils in 1975 Mr Landers continued for a further four years. On his retirement Mr Landers insisted that he could not take any credit for developments in Tenterfield ...he just happened to be there when matters came before council.
