Last week as a Tenterfield Shire councillor and ratepayer to our shire, I attended nine out of 10 community meetings.
Unfortunately I missed the tenth one in Liston, choosing to attend the meeting held by the ratepayers association at the Tenterfield Shearing Complex, which was well attended.

I put up my hand to be a councillor as I have a strong willingness to represent our community, and I believed that council could improve communication with residents and ratepayers on issues affecting our shire and about the decisions made on our behalf.
It is not quite three months since I was sworn in, however I have now twice met with community in all corners of our shire, which has been a great experience and hope to engage more regularly with everyone in my ward.
I don't need to point out the obvious but each ratepayer/ resident has very different needs.
I have met with many ratepayers over this time and I thank them for their input, advice and questions because they are all important.
I have one thought for those who attended the Tenterfield meeting: This rate discussion is far from over, but please remember that council needs feedback prior to 2nd of May, and it is important our shire moves forward as one.
Information on the Strategic Plan and long term financial plan etc is available from the shire for those who have been unable to attend the council consultation sessions, and also online.
As a ratepayer I will join the ratepayers association and attend the next meeting as I am truly interested and will convey your thoughts to our other councillors.
However, as a member I would suggest that all thoughts are respectfully listened to at these meetings in a democratic manner.
