The special commemoration was organised by the two clubs who Brendan had played for and was well supported by his family.
Leigh Sweetman, Brendan’s mother, was on hand to hand over the shield to the Tenterfield side.
Thunder coach Stan Hickey said it was a proud moment for both clubs.
“Inter supported it really well – there was a few former players who played with Brendan there on the day showing their support.
“It was just nice we won it,” Hickey said.
It was a tight game but Hickey said his side were growing in stature each week.
“We are improving every game – it was windy day and a very even game so it was good to get the result,” he said.
The win keeps Tenterfield in fourth position and their hopes alive for a finals position.
In the ladies contest the Tenterfield girls were too good running away with a comfortable 3 – 0 win.
“Inter are definitely improving – some of their younger girls are standing up and have been good,” Hickey said.
In the men’s game a Nigel Bonetto hat-trick for Inter was too much for Tenterfield to overcome.
Tenterfield got the better of Inter in their last match-up but this time Hickey said they simply ran out of steam.
“The referee (Peter Patty) said 10 minutes was all it was – we went to sleep,” he said.
The side welcomed Phil Spence back into the team but it wasn’t enough to stop Inter from winning 4 – 1.
“The boys are still happy – we’ve spoken and most of them are keen to go again next year. We are treating this year as a chance to build up for next season,” Hickey said.
Tenterfield travel to Warwick this weekend for a couple of tough encounters against the Wolves.
