The girls league tag side got things off to a perfect start with a thumping 72 – 0 victory.
Now edging further ahead on the competition ladder, club president Brendan Minns said the girls are impressing everyone.
“They did extremely well – their scramble defence was quite exceptional at times,” Minns said.
Even though they were missing a few senior players, the girls ran away with their biggest win of the season.
With a strong police presence, the fiery encounter most expected in the men’s game never really took off.
The boys also notched up their largest win this season with a comprehensive 72 – 16 battering of the Rams outfit.
Despite the score line, Minns said he wasn’t happy they shipped 16 points.
“I was quite unhappy with our game in the end,” the coach said.
“We were a bit too complacent – our ball security in the ruck wasn’t real good and we dropped too much ball.
“The biggest disappointment was dropping the 16 points,” he said.
Leading 36 – 12 at the interval, the Tigers managed the same points tally in the second to run out easy winners.
“It was a good, hard, physical, clean game,” Minns said.
“There was a little push and shove but nothing to really worry about – we were just there to play footy.”
Minns now has his gaze firmly fixed on this weekend’s huge encounter with the Stanthorpe Gremlins.
The teams will play for the Patrons Cup, Caldwell Cup and local pride as the competitions two top teams look ahead to the finals series.
Minns is fighting to regain fitness while Stanthorpe’s own captain/coach and former Tenterfield boy Damian Petrie is struggling with his own calf injury.
“I’ll lace up the boots and see how it goes and Damian said he might try doing the same and playing 10 to 15 minutes each half,” Minns said.
There will likely be a big crowd on Saturday at Sullivan Oval for the game which coincides with a Gremlins 40-year club reunion and ‘Old Boys Day’.
“We’ll have to be right on to win the game,” Minns said.
“They’re our danger side this weekend – they seem to be finding form at the good end of the season,” he said.
The ladies game will start at 1.00pm with the men starting at 2.00pm.
