Josh Gower, Dylan Turner and Caleb Hutchings have been handpicked by a group of selectors to represent the region in the colts grade.
The colts and a men’s side have been drafted to play in the imminent zone championships in Toowoomba on the June long weekend (June 6-8).
Organisers are yet to detail whether the competition will be played on the Saturday or over the Saturday and Sunday.
Football Stanthorpe are the current men’s zone champions after impressing throughout last year’s eight team tournament.
A ladies side, consisting a host of Tenterfield girls, were runners-up in last year’s competition.
There has been no word as yet to whether a ladies side will be selected to play again.
“The selectors have picked the best players in the competition to represent Football Stanthorpe and we need everyone to be committed to the cause,” Manager Steve McEvoy said.
“Jon Pearson from Warwick will be coaching the colts while Ballandean’s Anthony Rametta has taken the reins for the men’s team.
“This is a great opportunity for Football Stanthorpe to gauge where we are in respect to other regions and I believe the selectors have picked a very strong squad,” McEvoy said.
Tenterfield coach Stan Hickey was over the moon to see the three Tenterfield players receive a call up.
“They are all becoming very impressive boys to watch – they are all extremely easy to coach.
“These guys have developed their game a lot on their own,” Hickey said.
Having coached the three boys for a number of years Hickey was able to see why selectors thought they’d be suitable for the side.
“Josh is the ducks guts – he’s totally focused and wants to make a career in the game.
“I believe Dylan is one of the better centre-backs in the competition. He’s really developed his own game from obviously watching a lot of football.
“He very rarely dives in and has a little deft touch.
“Caleb’s Caleb – he’s a very good goalkeeper.
“He’s got a good eye and good positioning and knows when to come out and put pressure – he has a good football brain,” Hickey said.
