The club travelled to Stanthorpe for four games against an improving International Club.
The junior colts came in for some glowing comments despite succumbing to a 5-1 loss.
Club coach Stan Hickey says everyone within the club has been pleased with their improvement.
“It was a tough day at the office for them but it was pleasing to see the progress in the kids.
“I felt we might have been robbed a couple (goals),” Hickey said.
With some key players out the senior colts knew they had a difficult task ahead against a talented young International side.
The first half see-sawed with both sides picking up a goal apiece before the break.
Missing game changers in Dylan Turner and Josh Gower, Tenterfield fell away in the last half-an-hour.
“We didn’t capitalise on their mistakes – the next six games will really determine how good of a side we are,” Hickey said.
International ran out 5-2 winners and Hickey says they’ll need to improve for their crucial tie against Stanthorpe United this weekend.
Third and fourth placings are still very much up for grabs with four clubs hoping to sneak into the positions.
“It might come down to other results going our way leading into the finals,” he said.
The girls made light work of International’s side winning 6-0.
Hickey called it the ‘Allanna Show’ as Allanna Clancy and Alana Condrick dominated with Clancy notching four goals and Condrick, two.
Stanthorpe United’s ladies did the Thunder a favour on Sunday by disposing of Ballandean 6-1.
Ballandean had previously only lost the single game and their shock defeat will give Tenterfield hope of claiming the minor premiership.
The men’s side welcomed back Trent Van Italie from a lengthy layoff and Hickey said they were hopeful of nicking a point or three.
“It was a blinder – a good game, tough, fast with some skilful football,” he said.
Similarly to the senior colts, the men were unable to hold on for the full 90 minutes.
International capitalised on some concentration lapses and refereeing blunders to win 6-3.
“It was a great game and credit to our blokes who only had the bare 11,” Hickey said.
Tenterfield will host Stanthorpe United this Saturday at Shirley Park.
