Tenterfield fielded junior colts, senior colts, ladies and men’s teams with the high number of clubs competing. The season started earlier than usual and teams struggled with player numbers in the first few games.
As interest grew and teams settled, the competition was under way.
The junior colts started slow, with young players coming up from Tenterfield junior soccer. The first few games were a struggle, as they played more experienced teams with numerous seasons under their belts. Our first round was tough going as the team warmed to the level of coaching, learning more about the game and team play which helped in their improvement.
Congratulations to Amy, Chris and helpers for a great job building and improving the team.
The senior colts started the season with only eight players registered. With the help of a couple junior colts, they were able to compete well and play good football. With the addition of more senior players the side became a very competitive football team, finishing the normal season in fourth place.
This put them in to the minor semi-final with Stanthorpe United, which they won, and then International Club who were the clear second-placed team all season.
Tenterfield proved too strong, winning 2-1. Congratulations to the players, coaches and the Thunder for making the grand final.
The ladies fielded yet another strong squad for 2015 with the core of players returning from last year and new, committed players joining the squad.
They finished the season as the 2015 Minor Premiers which is a wonderful achievement for the girls as they head in to their grand final game.
The men’s side started well, with most of the 2014 players returning for another season.
With the addition of some younger players, and coach Phil bringing a new style of play to the team, the squad was very competitive.
Injuries and unavailability hampered the progress mid-season, but the enthusiasm of the coach and players led to some very impressive individual and team efforts.
Presentation night will be held on Saturday, September 12, at the Tenterfield Golf Club.
With two teams competing in grand finals and a noticeable improvement in junior colts and men’s, the Tenterfield Thunder had a very successful 2015 season.
