The Tenterfield A-grade sits on equal points with Inglewood but best them when it comes to for and against.
Their 76-12 point win over the Cutters mean they’ve managed 22 more game points than their Rooster’s rivals.
With no ladies or reserve fixtures to be played the under 18s Border Bushrangers played the curtain raiser against Highfields.
The Bushrangers continue to improve and managed a narrow 24-20 win over the Toowoomba based outfit.
Killarney remain anchored to the bottom of the BRL table but Tigers coach Chris Battersby commended their effort in the weekend tie.
“The score didn’t really reflect the game. They were tough and never stopped trying,” Battersby said.
He said his side managed to put on a strong attacking display without overplaying.
“Our attack was a lot better, a lot crisper and we weren’t pushing the pass too much. I think we were a bit more settled.”
Coedie Tandy was a standout and notched a couple tries against his former club.
The third round of competition starts this Saturday when Tenterfield take on Wallangarra in the border grudge match.
The ladies will kick-off the day before A-grade take the park.
“It’ll be hard out there – especially when they play Tenterfield, they seem to lift.
“We’ll work hard this week to prepare,” Battersby said.
They could be missing the services of Brendan Minns and Jarrod McIntosh however.
Both have been picked for South-West Country who will head to Mitchell in central-west Queensland for the Outback Carnival this weekend.
