Paul Tandy, who lives at the eastern end of Cowper St, said he and wife Dolly Jerome heard their own dogs barking at around 4am on Thursday morning, and now regret not investigating. When Ms Jerome went to the clothesline later in the morning she discovered what remained of the couple’s sheep and goat flock cornered in a yard with two dogs ‘definitely in attack mode’.
She managed to chase off the dogs which ran in the direction of Aldershot Rd, but she said they were in no hurry. On investigation the carnage included five pregnant ewes, two lambs and a pet nanny goat. The surviving animals are all traumatised and lame after apparently being chased around the paddock for several hours. Another lamb had to be put down and other sheep bear attack injuries.
The two dogs are described as being very similar in appearance -- possibly litter mates – looking like white hunting dogs with coloured patches. The incident was reported to the council ranger.
