It may have been a lesson in budget cooking but the kitchen at Tenterfield Social Development Committee was filled with wonderful aromas and tasty eats as community members lined up to lunch on their creations.

Cooking on a Pursestring was led by qualified chef Bill Floyd, known for his volunteer work in community kitchens.
The theme of the day was beef mince, and Chef Floyd turned out a smorgasbord of dishes from his two kilogram investment.
The $75 budget produced more than 20 hearty serves of dinner, with lots of leftover pantry items for future meals.
The workshop was a project of Inverell-based Rural Outreach & Support Service, which conducts the cooking sessions at various locations around the region. Other workshops include Love Food, Hate Waste and Start from Scratch Cooking, all intended to promote healthy, economical meal preparation, amongst a raft of free life skills workshops offered by the service.
Cooking on a Pursestring included hygiene practices, implements, freezer use, and even a section on Bill’s Tips. Arguably the best part of the half-day session, however, was sharing lunch at the conclusion.
