There’s something going on at the library every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for all ages of children. In the mornings from 10.30am until 11am, there’s storytelling for children up to seven years old with a selection of books, followed by a handicraft session.
No bookings are necessary, just come on down and enjoy. It’s fun for the young and the young at heart.
Older children can try their hand at card and bookmark making in the afternoons from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. For the adventurous children, we have some special dinosaur and pirate-themed cards – so come along and create.
There’s a limit of 10 children per session, and a $3 charge, so please ring 6740 2190 to book a place for your child.
Plenty of new titles have been added to the shelves this week.
Planning your house or garden? Try The Feng Shui Dictionary: A Portable A to Z by Lillian Too, a handy little book with plenty of practical advice, or Plants from Pits: How to Grow a Garden from Kitchen Scraps by Holly Farrell – a great book to use with children, or for the beginning garden, with easy to understand drawings and photos.
Another book for children and their carers is Kabobs for Kids by Janna DeVore – plenty of brightly coloured photos with an adult and children’s prep section for each of the easy but tasty recipes.
Giving Thanks: More than 100 Ways to Say ‘Thank You’ illustrated by Ellen Surrey is a new picture book explaining in a fun way a very important concept for children to master. The book includes directions for a gratitude jar and suggestions for making thank you cards.
For adults, try the Great Australian Women’s Weekly Read Together by Julie Cohen “their love was unstoppable, their life was a lie”. Or try this novel, described as “a breakthrough work of one of Australia’s most exciting emerging writers”, In the Garden of the Fugitives by Ceridwen Dovey “a masterpiece of duplicity and counterplay”.
See you soon at the library!
