Not many do and yet he helped the Americans change the outcome of war in the Pacific.
As a child he lived on Reservation with his missionary parents and learnt to speak Navajo whilst playing with the Navajo children.
This skill was to be a powerful weapon against the Japanese army as they could not decode the Navajo language and he trained up the Navajos to be the one the army’s communication strategies.
These men were known as the “Windtalkers” and they played a huge part in defeating the enemy who took so many lives at Pearl Harbour.
The enemy tried but could not break the code. Things shifted and the tide turned.
The Americans started winning the battles and the rest is history.
Even in this age of technology with all the communication we have available to us we seem to have lost the art of communication.
People have never felt so isolated or alone.
Communication is one of the most important skills we can ever learn.
It is key to building strong relationship and self worth.
Problems start to rise when communication is poor.
One of the key skills to being a good communicator is to be a good listener.
Not only does it help in building relationships it also shows respect by listening.
When people feel respected and heard it opens the channels to greater communication and better relationships.
The words we chose to speak to and over people have a powerful effect they can make or break us just like the ‘Windtalkers’.
God’s word says in James 3 says, “We all fail in many areas, but especially with our words.
Yet if we’re able to bridle the words we say we are powerful enough to control ourselves in every way, and that means our character is mature and fully developed.
Horses have bits and bridles in their mouths so that we can control and guide their large body.
And the same with mighty ships, though they are massive and driven by fierce winds, yet they are steered by a tiny rudder at the direction of the person at the helm.
And so the tongue is a small part of the body yet it carries great power! The Passion Translation.
