Rob said he has always been interested in other people's stories, but it took the death of his father in 1996 and a near-death experience of his own a few years later for him to pursue his real passion: stories and memories.
He reinvented himself as the 'Memory Man', recording family life stories. He uses them as well as various memory triggers to engage with seniors in a series of reminiscence pantomimes.
The tangible memory triggers that Rob uses in his shows are items from yesteryear such as 'Reckitt's' blue bags, 'Bex' headache powders, 'PIX' magazines, 'sand soap', and meat hurricane lanterns.
The show is a unique mixture of humour and nostalgia, blending stories and artefacts from a shared past in an interesting and entertaining way to evoke memories and laughter. Rob says he learns just as much from folk in the audience as they do from him.
Haddington residents' family members are welcome to come along to the Wednesday show, with the $10 entry including afternoon tea. Members of the public can attend the Thursday show at Millrace, for a $5 entry fee.
