A few days out from the annual Showgirl Ball it comes as a welcome relief for organisers who had their difficulties trying to garner interest for the event.
The showgirl competition is for entrants between 18 and 24 and is run in connection with the Land Sydney Royal Showgirl.
With one girl pulling out of the race it means five girls will contest this year’s competition.
Last year’s crowned winner Liz Jarvis said the title gave her a chance to forge new relationships with the local community.
“Being showgirl has provided me with many opportunities to extend myself as the role has done with many other ladies in previous years,” Liz said.
Twenty-two-year-old primary school teacher Annabel Overell and 18-year-old Shona Lees have added to a list that already includes Samantha Doherty, Stephanie Kennedy and Codi Dorward.
“I aim to be an enthusiastic and active entrant in Miss Showgirl 2015,” Annabel said.
“As a Showgirl entrant, it will give me the opportunity to be an advocate for our community and rural industries.
“Being an entrant will challenge me to leave my comfort zone, participate in public speaking and be comfortable in a social and professional environment - I really believe this will be a positive experience I can only benefit from,” Ms Overell said.
Shona currently works at Mountain Blue blueberry farm near Tabulam and said she hopes to capitalise on the showgirl experience.
“My ambitions for 2015 are to travel whilst meeting and making new friends and learn about their lifestyle and culture.
“Through the showgirl competition I hope to gain new friends and have an input to the community by being a role model for younger girls,” Shona said.
The Tenterfield Showgirl Presentation Night will be held this Saturday night at the showgrounds pavilion.
Tickets are available from the Tenterfield Show Society office and at the door on the night.
