The ride uses the showground as its base, including its camping, catering and stabling facilities. There will be two outings, on the Sunday and Monday, each starting and finishing at the showground. The first takes riders throught the common and out Steinbrook Rd to Dairy Mountain to enjoy the spectacular views over Tenterfield from 1100 metres. Then it’s lunch at Garry and Nancy Pitkin’s before returning home via Scrub Rd.
On Monday the riders head out to historic Tenterfield Station Homestead, where keen listeners may hear echoes of the works of Banjo Patterson who was a frequent guest. Historian Ken Halliday will be on hand to provide some background on the homestead happenings while the show society puts on a barbecue lunch.
Included in the package is a special screening at the Tenterfield Cinema on Sunday night from 7.30pm of Justice denied: the true story of the Breaker Marant trial and execution. Even those not participating in the trail ride can come along on the night and for $15 enjoy the movie and supper that follows.
Registrations are being accepted up until 1pm on Saturday, either online or at the showground. Organiser Vince Sherry said he and helpers will be set up in the dining room under the grandstand to take registrations, which will have to close off then to allow for catering to be organised.
