Georgia Roberts, daughter of Tenterfield Hospital manager Tony Roberts, is going under the chop for this year’s World’s Greatest Shave in March, and is seeking everyone’s support.
Dad Tony may also need some support on the big day, Saturday March 17, as he reckons he can count on one hand the number of haircuts Georgia has had over her life and he’s feeling a bit wobbly at the prospect.
The World’s Greatest Shave is a fundraiser for research into blood cancer, a cause close to the Star’s heart as former editor Lisa Finnerty succumbed to the disease.
Georgia’s contribution will culminate in a close crop at Our Place Wine and Espresso bar, courtesy of hairdresser Shay Black. The festivities start at 4pm with the big shave at 5.30pm. Donors are also invited to do a preliminary severing of ponytails, for a price.
Our Place is generously providing the use of the venue and everyone coming along is asked to donate $5 to the cause, and encouraged to dress up in St Patrick’s Day outfits to mark the date.
There is also a donation box at Georgia’s workplace Unique Ambiance for those who wish to donate beforehand. Online donations can also be made at Georgia’s World’s Greatest Shave fundraising site.
“I’m taking part in the shave because cancer touched my family last year and I want to make a difference to those who need it,” she said.
Georgia is starting a hairdressing apprenticeship at Unique Ambiance this year, so the hair theme weaves through.
