A total of $633.35 was raised for the Cancer Council at Haddington Nursing Home’s Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday, May 24.
Organisers thanked everyone who came along and supported the day, especially Christine Wells and her kitchen crew who did all the catering, providing sumptuous food for all.
The specially-commissioned prize wheel constructed by volunteer Robert McBurney was a bit hit. The 50 cent tickets had everyone eagerly watching each spin of the wheel and there were many laughs.
Tenterfield Cancer Support Group’s Thea McKenzie (also Tenterfield’s Citizen of the Year, along with husband Allan) reminded participants of the reason for the gathering, reading a moving testimony about a cancer victim.
In addition to raising money for cancer research the day coincided with the facility’s 15th birthday. Long-term resident Emilia Sattalo – who has lived at Haddington since its opening in 2003 – had the honour of cutting the celebratory birthday cake, along with general manager Fiona Murphy.
