Out of the blue two local knitters and crochet exponents Vera Kerr and Pam Brice made contact to say they had a donation they wished to make to Legacy. When Legatees went to Vera’s home they had no idea of the extent and generosity of the gesture.
Vera and Pam (with some help from Sharyn Rhodes) had knitted 220 red poppies for the crosses displayed in Bruxner Park, another 229 poppies for the fallen and 250 poppies for sale to the public. These 250 sale poppies netted $700 which the ladies then donated to Legacy, leaving local legatees astounded.
The ladies knit and crochet every Tuesday at the Tenterfield Library. With Pam’s close family connection with the military they decided to put their wonderful skills to a worthy cause.
Their only preference was that Tenterfield Legacy put the funds toward looking after local widows and President John Munro assured them of this.
Vera and Pam thanked the local community for its support which has gone to a very good cause. Legacy is indebted to the ladies for their work and community spirit.
When the photo was taken it proved an opportunity for John to brush up on a skillset he forgot he had .It turns out that besides being a community champion and close follower of the racing and league fraternity, John was a recognised knitter in his own right.
He’s not in the same league as the ladies but pretty handy nonetheless.
The ladies’ next knitting conquest is Christmas giftware, this time with proceeds going to the rescue helicopter.
