To help that along, the public exhibition period for the revised plan has been extended to Monday, October 12 with submissions from the community invited. Mayor Peter Petty, however, urged community to appreciate that council has limited resources.
"The standards included in the plan are the targeted outcomes and may not necessarily reflect the existing situation," he said.
"The plan will assist in establishing a consistent standard and serviceability for a safe road network."

The revised plan proposes amending rural road classifications to include a new Category E for lower order roads (essentially lanes), along with amendments to the description of existing categories. Adjustments to standards and intervention responses are also being proposed.
Cr Petty said submissions from the community will help council to establish road maintenance strategies and provide some data to use in lobbying government sources for additional road funding.
There was some debate at the August council meeting as to the ideal period of time to leave the revised plan on public exhibition, to allow plenty of opportunity for those with concerns to get in their submissions.
The plan aims to be a one-stop-shop incorporating policies on dust abatement, gutter crossings, kerb and guttering corner lot contributions and granite guttering, maintenance of nature strips and road verges, standard drawings and, finally, road naming, so there are many items of interest.
The draft plan can be viewed on council's website. To see what class your road falls into, download the relevant road register from the website.
Submissions can be emailed to council@tenterfield.nsw.gov.au or sent in writing to the Chief Executive, Tenterfield Shire Council, PO Box 214, Tenterfield NSW 2372.
