Still RSL Sub Branch president Dave Stewart hosted a moving and enlightening service, his introduction including timely recognition that those who served in world conflicts have provided this country with the enduring ability to survive through difficult times, and also to enjoy the good times.

Deputy Mayor Greg Sauer in his address cited the sportsmanship of one Cecil Healy who in 1912 risked his chance of Olympic gold when he insisted on rerunning a semi-final race to include the American contender after a scheduling mixup. Fortunately Cecil won gold in another event.
He went on to join the AIF and in 1918 was shot and killed while leading his platoon, after sacrificing the relatively safe postion of Quarter Master Sergeant. Cecil Healy remains the only Australian Olympic Gold medallist to die at war.
