It was an ideal day for plumes, coats and finery at the Deepwater Races on Saturday, January 20 as a breeze cooled down Fashions in the Field contestants as they paraded in the sunshine.

Competition organiser Lindy Stevenson said the races attracted a good cross-section of the popular from southern Queensland and northern NSW (and a busload of bucks party revellers from Grafton), and that was reflected in the lineup.
Kay McColl made a welcome return as Fashions in the Field judge, ably assisted by Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall. There was $2800 in prizemoney up for grabs, the largest pot ever, which may have contributed to the large fields.
Ultimately there was a smattering of personalities from the Tenterfield-to-Glen Innes stretch among the winners and placegetters, including Tenterfield’s adopted son Enzo Gorioa being named best-dressed gent.
