The timber bridge spanning Kangaroo Creek on Paddy’s Flat Road (north) will have a 10 tonne load limit following an inspection of the bridge on Wednesday, July 18.
The inspection revealed that urgent action was needed to ensure the safety of road users and the long term viability of the timber bridge.
Consequently the load limit will be imposed, along with reducing traffic to one lane, once signs are erected early next week. Signage of a speed restriction of 20 km/hr on the bridge is currently in place.
The inspection found rot and decay in the bridge girders and a significant notch reentry crack in girder 3. Urgent work has been undertaken with the installation of bolts to pull girder 3 back together from the notch split. Additional bolts have also been added to help tighten the bridge up.
Council said it apologises for any inconvenience the safety measures may cause road users.
