Local fire and emergency protection has received a boost with the delivery of a new $345,000 firefighting tanker to Tenterfield Fire Station.
Member for Lismore Thomas George said the new multi-purpose Isuzu four-wheel drive would increase Fire and Rescue NSW’s (FRNSW) capacity to deal with fires and other emergencies on the urban/bush interface.

“The NSW Government is committed to providing our firefighters with the best equipment and technology available to support their vital work - protecting lives and property,” Mr George said.
“Tenterfield firefighters do an amazing job protecting the local community and this new truck will further improve the quality of our emergency response.
“This vehicle enables firefighters to access fires in difficult terrain and has a water spray protection system that can be operated from the cabin to protect the crew.
“The tanker can carry 3500 litres of water and pump 1900 litres of water a minute for bush and grass firefighting. It is also equipped with firefighting foam and carries a breathing apparatus for each crew member.”
FRNSW New England Zone Commander Superintendent Tom Cooper said FRNSW continued to provide its firefighters with new vehicles to ensure they are prepared for anything.
“Our fleet is made up of more than 650 fire and rescue vehicles across NSW and our priority is to make sure firefighters have the best vehicles available and are ready to help anyone, anytime, anywhere,” he said.
In 2016/17, Tenterfield firefighters responded to more than 120 fire and emergency calls and took part in 20 activities designed to educate the local community about fire safety.
