It will be all fun-and-games (with some discrete learning) at The Sir Henry Parkes Memorial Public School as the school kicks off its 2019 Kindergarten Transition days on Wednesday, September 5.
Children will be introduced to the classroom setup and some of the activities they’ll be undertaking once they officially start ‘big school’ next year, so that it’s not so daunting a prospect. The one-hour sessions, from 9-10am on a Wednesday, continue on September 12 and 19.
The students should bring along a bag and a water bottle, and ideally were a broad brimmed hat, joggers and casual clothes.
Students will participate in a range of classroom activities prepared by the kindergarten teachers with a focus on literacy, numeracy, creative and practical arts and science and technology.
Parents and carers are invited to stay for the first session in the school’s Bruxner Hall, to get up to speed with what’s required to give their child the best start in their life at primary school.
The session provided parents with a basic overview of school organisation, daily routines in kindergarten, the curriculum and programs offered at TSHPMPS, the Best Start Literacy and Numeracy assessment and ideas to assist their children in transitioning to school.
It’s followed by a tour of the facilities and morning tea.
