The under 14 and under 17 sides took to the field in Saturday’s Warwick and district grand finals to come home strong and claim the trophies.
The under 14s faced Collegians and dominated with a 36-nil triumph while the 17s finished with a 26-6 win over Goondiwindi.
“The 14 got off to a flying start and maintained their lead and were very comfortable,” Tenterfield junior league president Peter Holley said.
“With the 17s girls, it was very close up until half-time.
“Natasha Brierley was player of the match in the 14s and Abbey O’Neill was player of the match in the under 17 final.
“Full credit to Mark Cooper, he coached both teams and he has done a good job with them.
“We have had a real successful last couple of seasons, winning a few premierships that we hadn’t obtained in previous years.”
For many of the under 17s players, the victory was bittersweet with the match their last in junior rugby league.
“They thought they would finish up last year but when it changed from 16 to 17s they got an extra year,” Holley said.
“I just hope we get the numbers again next year.
“There will probably be a whole new committee so it will be interesting to see how it goes.”
Presentation will be in early October.
