The powerful Dalby/Milmeran team outgunned 23 other teams and some of the best bowling combinations in New England to win Tenterfield’s Spring carnival.
Twenty-four teams of triples from Glen Innes, Inglewood, Warwick, Killarney, The Summit, Tannymorel, Texas, Stanthorpe as well as seven teams from Tenterfield contested the event.
The Dalby/Milmeran team of Bogga GraemeKath, Alby Gibbs and Maree Gibbs edged out the Tenterfield team of Rob Alcock, Bryce Titcume and Barbara Carter in a countback to win first prize.
Third was Dave Stibbard’s team from The Summit. Last round winners were Bill Newberry’s team from Glen Innes. It was a great day with sunny conditions, free running greens and 24 teams of happy bowlers. After the first two rounds the bowlers adjourned for lunch.
At this stage seven teams had two wins and were in contention for the prize money.
Round three proved a challenge for some of these teams such that only three teams could boast three wins for the day.
The Dalby and Tenterfield teams tied on points and ends so a countback on margins was required to decide the winner – Dalby!
Thanks go to all the members and ladies who filled in teams at short notice, were reserves on the day, prepared the morning and afternoon teas and ran the raffle.
Winner of the accommodation prize for visitors was Mary Zappa from Stanthorpe. It has been a very successful carnival with 24 teams, up from 14 last year.
It was great to see the greens full with classy bowlers from all over New England with a great time had by all.
Several bowlers enjoyed the accommodation at the motel which made it a pleasant weekend.
The committee will now start preparations for our next carnival on the Australia Day long weekend.
