Christmas is coming early for art lovers with a dozen local favourites combining for an exhibition of their works at the Artists’ Collective Gallery studio, opening this Friday, October 5.
The exhibition is fittingly called First Encore and includes the work of 11 artists – both 2D and 3D – whom the Collective has previously featured. New Collective member Liz Powell will also have examples of her wondrous work in paper included in the exhibition.
Liz says she works ’on paper and with paper’, incorporating a diversity of materials and styles including printmaking, watercolour, textile art, paper making, book binding and 3D paper sculpture.
The other exhibiting artists are Maggie Brockie (clay sculpture), Raylee Delaney, (watercolour paintings), Judy Harris (charcoal and paste drawings), Sue Jurd (dye on silk, 2D and 3D), Michael Pieper (creative works on timber), Sheryl Wright (3D silk and wool felting), John Donnelly (pottery and acrylic paintings), Margaret Oban Dowe (abstract ink and mixed media), Louise Jenkins (mixed media), Gay Landeta (mixed media) and Lu Potter (ink drawings).

The Collective’s Anni Washington said the artists are all back by popular demand and the result in an eclectic mix. It’s created headaches in how to organise the gallery but the winners are the viewing public who can enjoy all their local favourites in one space.
Speaking of Christmas, this exhibition is an ideal opportunity to grab a unique gift or three, with something to appeal to all tastes.
Most of the artists hope in be in attendance on opening night, with free nibbles and drinks from 5.30pm. The exhibition continues until Sunday, November 4.
