Rotary’s Halloween Party at Tenterfield Memorial Hall was a scary place to be, when else but on Wednesday, October 31.
While the number of partygoers has remained stable, the effort that goes into costumes seems to increase each year.
This year, the fifth party, the range of characters ran the gamut for ultra-cute to ultra-gory. There were new games to play and some old favourites.
Possibly the scariest part of the evening was when Rotarian Harry Bolton stepped into the void of the delayed sound system with his own rendition of the hokey pokey.
Organiser Karen Tapscott said she’s always happy as long as Rotary covers its costs and anything else is a bonus.
“It’s all about the kids having fun,” she said.
“There’s nothing else like this for them.”
Even though there was a new strategy of sending the children home with a bag of treats instead of distributing them throughout the evening, it didn’t dampen any enthusiasm for participating in the games.
Mrs Tapscott hopes to be backing up to do it all over again next year, although she has found over the years that two hours of partying is sufficient for littlies and grownups alike.
The following year, however, Halloween falls on a Saturday and there are plans afoot for a big family night on October 31, 2020 so start prepping.
