MP Thomas George said the Tenterfield Salvation Army is the social heart of the community and that’s why the NSW Government has supported its efforts to establish a new activities centre with a grant for $12,802.
The Salvos’ Joel Soper said his boxing classes reach 20-25 participants in their weekly sessions. The Tenterfield Social Development Committee and Armajun support the initiative, and there’s a bus pickup for those who can’t make it independently.
The classes have outgrown the existing hall in Logan Street, and development plans have just been approved to build a new facility next door.
Mr Soper sees potential for indoor netball, soccer and more once the centre is up and running.
