KLAS principal Kristen Lovett said the volunteers do amazing work for cancer patients throughout Tenterfield by supporting them with equipment and essentials whilst undergoing treatment or when in palliative care.
“Each week KLAS have a casual day,” she said.
“We pay our funds into the charity fund for this privilege. It’s a great talking point to raise awareness but it’s also a fun way to raise money.
“In addition to this we run events like the dunk tank at the Tenterfield Show and other fundraising activities. We have been supporting Tenterfield Cancer Support for around four years now and have provided over $4000 in funds to assist local residents.
“This year we shared our donation between Tenterfield Cancer Support and the fundraising occurring locally for Pip and Paul Johnston and little Tommy and the Niemann Pick Type C Disease Foundation.”
The Cancer Support Group’s $520 received from KLAS this year will go towards more equipment to make in-home care more comfortable.
The Johnstons are seeking treatment options to address little Tommy’s dire prognosis, with the $520 KLAS donation supporting the foundation’s research into the disease. There are a number of fundraising activities underway through which the community can contribute.
