Torrential rain tested the resolve of shoppers to be present for the draw of the Tenterfield Chamber of Tourism, Industry and Business’s Stop, Shop and Win promotion, in conjunction with the Carols in the Park on Friday night.
Of course the rain washed the carolers into Tenterfield Memorial Hall, and the Business Chamber draw proceeded. On offer were Why Leave Town debit cards to be redeemed in part or full at any of the participating businesses in the shire, keeping spending money local.
Ruth Rutherford went home with a healthy $2000 of unexpected spending money in her pocket when her docket was drawn out. Third place winner James Gosper took home $250 and second place winner Noelene Faint $500.
Ruth couldn’t get over her excitement at winning $2000, although she said even knowing she would receive that at the end wouldn’t have altered her shopping habits. She has been very active on the shopping front of late, buying all the Christmas gifts for family members as well as furnishing a new home and fitting out the back yard.
“Why would you want to shop anywhere else?” she said.
“Everyone’s so friendly, and they know you by name.”
She thought it was a great promotion.
