Premiership winning teams from the Far North Coast and New England competitions made their way to Federation Park for the four fixtures.
The Bumblebees took on Robb College's third grade team and landed their first win of the season 19-14.
The Bees are in their second year of rugby union and much of the squad are newcomers to the sport.
Coach Phil Jones was impressed with the talent the team showed on Saturday.
"The other day, you can tell we have had a season of rugby so we are in a much better place than we were this time last year," he said.
"We were starting from scratch, we only had one game but we will go a lot better I think."
The Far North Coast teams took all four wins over New England but Jones said it was tightly contested across the grades.
"I think there was only a try in it in the main game, the Wollongbar-Robb game," he said.
"Robb turned up with three good sides.
"They played good sides in the games they were playing in. Their A grade side is going to be very competitive.
"They matched Wollongbar, it was just Wollongbar scored a couple of quick tries there at one stage.
"We are lucky to get that standard in Tenterfield. All in all it was a good start to the season."
The day raised funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Jones wasn't sure of the final tally of funds raised but believes it is "similar" to last year's $9500 total.
The Bees will get their campaign underway this Saturday for round one of the Far North Coast President's Cup against Evans River.
Jones said they have been training well with strong numbers but are expecting a challenge when they come up against the 2018 runners-up.
"We have got to make sure we turn up to Evans River this weekend because they will be a good side," he said.
"Numbers have been good at training. We have lost a few from last year.
"There are a few missing but we have gained a few, our numbers look pretty good."
