"It was a wonderful cross-section of the community," he said.
There were 39 people including lots of families involved on the day. Mr Davey said there were even some out-of-towners who had come to support Moonbahlene, which runs the Gunimaa Nursery that's providing the planting material.

Ian Stuart even brought along his own hole-making auger, several hours before official start time.
"It was a great community day, and now we have 39 more people with greater awareness of what's going on at the creek, and what's coming up," Mr Davey said.
On the day 400 trees were planted on the creek in Jubilee Park, part of a process to create habitat to welcome back the rare Purple Spotted Gudgeon and even platypus and other natives.
The project now has close to 800 trees in the ground. Ultimately 3000 plants will be set out but a lot of these will be grasses over the summer.
Mr Davey and his crew will be back at the creek on Wednesday to do a bit more, and then it will become a weekly commitment to look after weeding, watering and general maintenance. He said tree guards aren't being used, to avoid creating rubbish in the creek when they tend to blow off.
