Councillors have voted to invest the seasonal decorations budget in some year-round magic, initially lighting up the park trees for a trial period. Rouse Street trees between Molesworth and Miles Streets may also get the LED lighting treatment, subject to funding and feedback from the community.
The council resolution called for the lights to run with solar power, but the recommendation of the supplier was to instead use the 24v power connected to the existing Park lighting power infrastructure, all of which is subject to timer control. The recommendation was due to the variable recharge power availability with solar, issues of reliability, and the desired level of visibility.
Council is keen to know how the community feels about the ambience of the park and the aesthetic improvement, and whether the community would like to see a bit more of this in the main street (if funds become available).
