The quilt-of-the-year has become an anticipated effort, held in conjunction with the Oracles of the Bush estival. Tickets are on sale now at Sullivan’s Newsagency at a cost of $2 each, with all proceeds going towards materials for the society’s big quiltathon on March 17 and 18.
Last year the 24-hour effort smashed all standing records to produce 32 quilts, which are then distributed to those in need in disaster zones and elsewhere.
Producing that much comfort comes at a cost, and the society welcomes any donations of fabric and wadding.
Or supporting the cause is as easy as buying a raffle ticket, and getting the chance to take home your own handmade treasure.
The society’s Bronwyn Harradine said the quilt is the product of many hands, with various teams undertaking purchasing, cutting, pressing, sewing, quilting and binding.
The raffle will be drawn during Oracles on Sunday, April 8. Until then the quilt will be on display at the newsagency, before relocating to the society’s room behind the Visitor Information Centre for the festival.
Society members continue to meet in the room each Thursday from 9.30am to 2pm, with all welcome to join in with any type of craft.
